Yellow Gray and Black

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

Yes, you are correct we have already done a gray and yellow color blog, but this one is specifically made for one of our brides who wanted to incorporate black with gray and yellow. So we found some MORE beautiful pictures of real weddings that used these colors. Gray bridesmaids dresses are so adorable but in this combination you could also have black bridesmaids dresses. Black is always a safe color, never goes out of style, and looks good on everyone. Above on the right are cake pops; if you have not tried cake pops yet you really should! They have them at Starbucks or better yet, at a local bakery.
Table seating cards; I am seriously in love with this idea! So clever to have people replace their names with a Polaroid photo of themselves. It would be a good keepsake to put all the photos into an album and look back to see what everyone looked like your wedding day (show your kids how goofy your uncle looked!).

Our bride loves orchids so we added an orchid bouquet for her as an idea. A lemon cocktail would be a really nice refreshing drink to serve guests.
I really like the black chairs and the black linens. Instead of purple orchids, use white orchids. You could either have the orchids in the the water with the floating candle on top or you could do something like the flowers below (left) which is a beautiful and classy look.
It has been very popular to offer guests flip flops for the dance floor but what makes this different is that the sizes are in different colors. I think that's really clever and another great way to add your colors to small details.

The mason jars with straws are really cute. You could put people's names and table numbers on the paper design and that would be a really unique table card idea. It would probably make the most sense at smaller weddings ( 50 or less), but if you have space and the capability of making them for 200 or more I'd say go for it! I would be impressed :)  I'm always a fan of the groom and groomsman wearing some colorful fun socks.
Ok I saw this picture of the lemoncello favors and started giggling to myself because it reminds me of my mother-in-law who came back from Italy and was all about lemoncello. It is an alcoholic drink that the Italians take a shot of after a meal. It tastses like a very strong lemonhead and is actually quite refreshing. So if you did have these as favors at your wedding you should send me two - one of rme and  one for my mother-in-law (delicious)!!!
The clutches below were gifts for the bridsmaids, which is such a great idea. That way your bridesmaids could have something for the day of that matches with what they are wearing and can be used after the wedding for special nights. Each one is a little different so that no one confuses there's with someone elses. If you had someone really crafty you could probably make them too!

If you have read any of our blogs you know we are huge shoe people! I really like the picture above - how the bridesmaids have gray shoes and the bride has yellow. I also like the signs that are wood that have been painted yellow (meaning if you find a sign that you want to use you can always paint it to match your colors!)

I really like these flowers because of the black centers, it fits the color theme just perfect! Well this has been another color blog post, hope you have enjoyed it! Check out our Yellow and Gray blog post becasue it's so similar and will give you some more ideas.

Pink, Yellow, Orange

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

Although it's still technically winter, most brides that are planning their weddings right now are brides for the spring or summer.  For this reason, this post may seem out of season.  My idea for this week's blog came from one of my favorite flowers, Gerber Daisies.  You can really get them in most colors, but the colors that come to my mind are hot pink, orange, and yellow- perfect for spring or summer!  They're so pretty together!

Using this color combination, you can really order bridesmaid dresses in any of these colors.  I like orange.  A pretty orange dress can be hard to find, but when you find the right color orange, Gerber Daisies go really well with them!  See this picture?  This was a dress by Siri- number 9463 in Saffron.  You can also go with a hot pink or yellow dress.
Because I think orange is a harder color to find great pieces for, I'm going to focus on orange as the main accent color.  I found this amazing orange searsucker bowtie for the guys on Etsy.  Wouldn't it look great with the orange bridesmaids dresses listed above? For the bride, I like a larger bouquet of Gerber Daisies that matches the bridesmaid's bouquets.  I also think a nice added touch to the bride is having a white Gerber Daisy in her hair.  You can find these all over Esty!
I also love this garter I found because it ties in all three Gerber Daisy colors.  Little touches like garters, broaches, boutonnieres, and shoes really do make one wedding different from all other weddings- so don't forget these small touches. How gorgeous is the centerpiece below - a serious favorite!
When using yellow,  I always think of lemons! Lemon slices in the flowers vase gives a color and looks refreshing! More uses of lemons in the picture right below!
I was also trying to come up with a way for the guests to have fun, and also add brightness to the day!  Because this wedding would be in the spring or summer, I think a great added touch would be pink, yellow and orange popsicles!  Everyone loves popsicles, especially when it's hot outside!  Strawberry, banana, and orange flavors are also delicious!  You can even make them yourself... you know how we love DIY projects.

Another project that I think could be DIY, would be the guestbook.  The idea I had was a platter that you have people sign.  You can decorate the center with the date and your names or monogram (example shown here) and have all of your guests sign it.  I'm a big fan of guestbooks that can be used in everyday life. It may be easier to buy, but there is definitely the option of making it, if you're really crafty.

I have to say that I am more of a fan of the three color combination then just pink and orange. The pink and orange table overwhelms me a little bit because the colors seem too similar.
Polka dots can be incorporated into almost everything at your wedding. Look at these invitations and the pillows at the cocktail area! A small tip to think about when it comes to orange. I would suggest not to have orange be a bridesmaids color dress because the orange reflects onto people's faces and you make get a lot of umpa-lumpa looking bridesmaids.
Hopefully this is a good start to a fun and bright spring/summer wedding!  I would love to see how your personal wedding would turn out when using this as a start!  Happy planning! If you like this color combo check out a little different one Green Pink and Yellow or Coral and Turquoise or if you really like yellow but want to pair it with a not so loud color check out our Yellow and Gray

Green Pink and Yellow

Monday, January 30, 2012

One of our brides told us that she is thinking about green, pink and yellow as a color combination; so to give her a little inspiration and see how others have used those colors we have created this post! We also included some ideas for how to use burlap with the colors! With these colors you can either mellow it down and use all pale colors or you can make it vibrant and use bright shades of the colors. We have some "bright" and "pale" versions throughout this blog.
Cute burlap sign could have it say anything; could make it a thank you sign and use it for your thank you cards after the wedding!
I love these yellow vintage chairs; makes for a great photo opportunity. I love the table numbers in the picture below. The use of a green wine bottle and then the burlap on a string is a good way to hold the table number information. If you were planning on using paper table numbers glued to wine bottles make sure you test it out first; paper doesn't stick super well to glass and you don't want to have to worry about the numbers falling off the wine bottles at the reception. That's why this idea below is so nice!
The green zigzag strips are so retro and fun. Silverware warped in burlap - wow! That could be a monuments DIY project if you have 100+ guests! But they are very cool!
Incorporate burlap in the bouquets by using it as a wrap. There are so many different kind of flowers that you can use with this color combination. They all look so different and give such a different vibe while all being in the same pink, yellow, and green (and white) color scheme.
You could use a "special drink" for the night and have it be your colors! This one is the pale yellow and green and there is a pink and green drink below too. The detail of a special drink is often forgot about but it can be a really cool and fun idea.
Really different shape of flowers above. If you love flowers lining the aisle but your budget is tight, you can seriously make these big flowers and save some money.
Using frame for table numbers is so easy to do yourself. Also it looks nice and you can use the frames over again. If you don't want to keep the frames yourself you can give them as gifts to people. And the frames do no have to be the exact same, so maybe you can find a home for all of them in your own home! A giant letter is a good photo op - and is another way to add color to a fire mantel or other place in the reception.
Another frame, but this time used as a menu. If you have great handwriting (or your friend does) all you would need is construction paper, scissors, a nice pen or marker and the frame! Another way to use burlap - frame each name card with it!
Loved these little girls pink ribbons, so sweet and innocent!
Hope this helps both our readers and of course our bride with the details of using Pink, Green and Yellow! If you want more just Green and White check out this post (it has recently been updated)!  Or our Yellow and Gray (which has also been recently updated!).

Until next time!

Yellow and Gray

Sunday, August 14, 2011

Our Style Watch blog this week is going to be focused on the currently popular color combination of yellow and gray. Personally, I quite LOVE this color combo (I am secretly planning my not-in-the-near-future baby's nursery to be yellow and gray)!! There are tons of great ideas to showcase each of these colors, so let's dig in!

I'll start once again with invitations. Because this is the first thing the guests see, you want to give them a feel for the atmosphere that will be at the wedding. These invitations are so cute and and are going to start a theme that you will see throughout this post!
Now the fun stuff...fashion. Although I LOVE gray bridesmaids dresses that have been becoming more and more popular, I must say I absolutely adore gray suits on the guys! It's such a classy color, and really looks sharp. Paired with this great striped tie and a cute boutonniere made of yellow billy balls (my favorite new bouquet flower), the whole package will make all of your guys look and feel better than all the other guys at the wedding!

Speaking of super popular gray bridesmaid dresses, please see the one I found below. LOVE!

I love the look of gray bridesmaid dresses, but I would probably choose yellow as to not over-use the color gray. I think the girls would look lovely in a yellow dress that compliments the guys' gray tuxes. Yellow is summery and beachy; but either yellow or gray dresses the girls will look great!
The great thing about using a color like yellow (or green for example), is that you can use fruit to help decorate! It's inexpensive and adds a cute touch! Lemons are so pretty as centerpieces and you can do so much with them. What I also love about these lemons is that we can play off the round shape of them, also. If you haven't seen the pattern yet, we have used invitations with circles, billy balls, and now lemons. This can spin off into incorporating polka dots (linens, cake, favors) or the ever popular paper lanterns.
All linens look really good - if you choose gray or yellow or even a patterned (stripe, polka dot etc). Since the colors are so light and go so well with white you can get away with patterns that wouldn't look so great with other colors. I also found these GREAT favors for your guests... lemonheads! They tie in the lemon decor and are topped off with a gray label. Perfect touch! I love these little yellow flowers; there are so many options with flowers make sure you look at all the options! Also if your wedding will be going into the evening - think about using lights! Look at the picture below to see how the lights literally brighten up the sky.

You make me happy when skies are gray is PERFECT for this yellow and gray theme! Look at all the small details you can use the colors in so easily!

The cake is also something you can incorporate the circular theme without making too overwhelming. First, just start with round layers. These two ideas are both great- one incorporating more of the yellow color, and one incorporating more of the gray color- and both fit great into the color scheme. If you want more of a traditional wedding cake the second two will still meet the theme of yellow and gray just in a more stumble way.
The last great touch I found for this color scheme is this handmade guestbook. These days people are getting so creative with what to do for their guestbooks. One way to be creative, but still have your physical guestbook when the wedding is over, is to try getting one of these custom made fabric guestbooks. They work with you so you can choose the colors, fabric, and details. And something else really unique - a handmade garter!
I really love these flowers (below) they look almost like a tree! So different then a lot of other styles. Letters spelling out everything are so cute - "drink" and "Mr. & Mrs" below! Steve Madden has some of the most fun, cute shoes! So definitely look at what is available when you're shoe shopping!
If you liked this blog check out some of our other color style watches - Green and White maybe one of our next blogs will include all three colors - white green and yellow. Also check out Gold and Coral post! It's a fun romantic but also kind of beachy awesome color scheme!
