Black and White Color Combo

Wednesday, February 29, 2012

Some things will never go out of style, and that's a black and white wedding. I really love black and white weddings it just keeps everything so simple and elegant. But I do also like when people add a pop of color to this combination. Some of my favorite colors to add to this color combination is red or turquoise. The photobooth thrend is still alive, but people are adding some creative aspects to the regular photobooth. The picture below shows a little window that people can pose behind or in front of and a basket of props. I think photo booths are a great way to capture all the guests at the wedding. It helps you get those pictures that you'd like to have but don't have time to "schedule it in" into your photographers schedule.
I really like the simple white cake. This cake below is so beatiful and elegant! If you were worried about having brown chairs mixed with black table linins - don't brown and black can totally go together and you can incorporate both the colors throughout all your designs.

The chair back is something I have never actually seen! But it's really cool if you can only do it for the bride and groom, you can have it resemble the dress and the tux! So unique and memorable!

Little boys in boties - so so cute! When using this color combo you can add a lot of designs such as the design on the cake below (left) or the striped table clothes (two pictures above)

More chair backs becasue they are so unique! Have you ever seen anything like this???

Hope you enjoyed this post! I will try to do a variation of this in the near future with pops of colors to show even more options!

Happy Wednesday!

You Make my Nights so Bright

Saturday, February 25, 2012

One of my favorite parts of weddings is how everything shines a little brighter that day then any other day. I love when couples use candles and lights of all different kinds to bring the romantic ambiance that is so perfect for their special day. This blog has all sorts of lights - Christmas white lights, sparklers, long stem candles, tea lights candles, flame-less candles, bulb lights, fireworks, lanterns, etc. No matter your style, the use of lights and candles can be used (and in my great opinion should be!). I love the sparkler craze that is going on, and look at this picture (above right) it looks like it's straight from Cinderella.
At many reception areas there are fireplace mantels; a perfect and easy way to decorate them is with a number of candles. You can get the hurricane vases from basically anywhere (Wal-Mart, Good Will, or if you want to be less thrifty Home and Good Store). You don't need to have as many candles on the mantel as the picture (above left), and they don't have to be the same size or height. But having them seriously adds a lot to the look of the room.
I love the (above right) picture with the hanging candles! Love! If you want more of a traditional romantic look try these tall stem candles like the (below right) picture!

Floating candles in the pool, these are the details that so many people miss! I love the pictures that are captured of the bride and groom at their ceremony, the blurred lights make the whole thing look magical.
I look at the picture below and in my head start singing "baby your a firework" (Katy Perry). People who get married near or on the 4th of July, fireworks are such a fun unique way to end the night. If you get married on that day then your chances of seeing fireworks without even planning it are very high. Just remember if you want to have fireworks, you have to have permits and things like that, so make sure you plan a head for that. The picture (below left) won a photograph of the year. If you want a great picture like this make sure you hire a great photographer because moments like this can be missed if you use your uncle who likes photography instead of a photographer.
I am a huge fan of chandeliers. I think they are so gorgeous and the type of chandelier can give of a completely different feel. I also really like adding lace to candles; if you want to see our do it yourself lace votive check out the link at the end of the post!
In the picture (above right) they are using flame-less candles. Make sure that you talk to your ceremony site coordinator and reception coordinator to make sure they will let you use candles, otherwise, flame-less is a great option. The great thing about flame-less are that they do not "blow out" in the wind, they do not start anything on fire, and they do not burn out. If you are outside and it's not a place that it blocked from the wind, think about using flame-less candles or making sure the candle is in a protective jar or glass or whatever you'd like.
These hanging candles are so popular right now and I am totally on board with them. They are so great to be little specs of light that hang behind you at the ceremony. I also love the candles leading down the aisle, even if it's in the daylight it's gorgeous.
Hope you use some of these ideas in your wedding! :) Happy Saturday! Check out our DIY lace votive Here!

Puppy Love

Thursday, February 23, 2012

Not long after I got married, my husband and I got a puppy and we are in complete love with him. So when I started brainstorming ideas of what to blog about this week I was thinking back to my wedding and thought, "if we had our little puppy before we got married, he for sure would've been in the wedding"... So that led me to think if others felt the same way, or if we were the only ones who had puppy love! I quickly found out I was not alone! And wanted to share for all those dog lovers, ways that people have let their dogs be apart of their big day.

If you are too nervous to have your dog on the big day, why not take some engagement shots with the other one you love! I am a sucker for Pomeranian's because my dog is a pom.
Cake toppers could also be a way to incorporate your beloved puppy.
If you want your wedding to have no surprises, don't bring your dog, because you never know what they are really going to do. But if you are someone who thinks something like your dog peeing on the tent is funny (see below) then everything will be just fine with your little guy by your side!

I love when the dog is the ring bearer. It is so sweet. I read one bride who said that their dog literally ran down the aisle to them with the rings and it brought everyone to laughter. Now, if your dog isn't well behaved, those rings could end with a game of chase... so be smart :)

This cake topper was for the grooms cake, which is perfect for a groom who loves his dog!
Hope this post brought a smile to your face like it did to me!

Food Trucks

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

Food trucks or food carts have been popular over the last year and are still continuing to be a popular idea for 2012. Food trucks are perfect for backyard weddings or other locations where kitchen access is limited. This is also a really fun idea for city weddings; if you are using your city as a theme a food truck fits perfectly.
Food trucks can be used very differently depending upon what food you want the truck to have. It could be used for the whole meal or it could be used for appetizers or desserts. I really like when people use them for desserts because it is so unique and your guests could choose from a variety of flavors rather then having one choice with whatever cake you choose. I also like the dessert option because I am the biggest Ice Cream person, so I would have loved to have an Ice Cream Truck for dessert!

I love how this bride and groom serve their guests! It's a really good way to be able to say hi to everyone if you didn't want to have a receiving line or go from table to table. It also would be a way to keep the "hello's" short which can be really essential if you have a lot of guests.
Donut's and coffee are another big trend. These would be a great snack at the end of the night and coffee is often needed for those driving home after the reception is over.
If you want to serve a complete dinner, make sure it's something you love! For all those west coast girls, In-N-Out would be awesome and I know the guests would not be disappointed. Other options are taco stands or sushi.  All you have to do is decide what you want and start searching!
Are you seeing any trends that you'd like us to blog about? Leave your idea in the comments and we'll try to have an upcoming post made for you!

Melissa
