Left Brain, Right Brain Painting

Saturday, February 11, 2012

I apologize in advance I know this is a wedding blog but I had to share what I've been working on over the last couple weeks. I saw this advertisement that Mercedes Benz has done on the left vs right side of the brain and was totally inspired to paint. Now this inspiration doesn't happen often so I have to take them when they come. I have been working in a very "left" brain side job and I have been desiring to use more of my right... But it was interesting to me because I finished the left side first and was working on the right and I kept making it "too much like the left" as in it was organized and not "free flowing" and I realized, maybe I am more left brained then I give myself credit for :) But, in the end, the right ended up very fun and different then it started as!
So I wanted to encourage all those people who think they can't paint or that they are not artistic to give it a try! Painting can be the most relaxing thing there is to do! Anyways I have to credit Mercedes Benz ads; I copied the words they used to describe each side of the brain. And without their creative perspective I would've never thought of creating this!
Left Brain: "I am the left brain. I am a scientist. A mathematician. I love the familiar. I categorize. I am accurate. Linear. Analytical. Strategic. I am practical. Always in control. A master of words and language. Realistic. I calculate equations and play with numbers. I am order. I am logic. I know exactly who I am."
Right Brain: "I am the right brain. I am creativity. A free spirit. I am passion. Yearning. Sensuality. I am the sound of roaring laughter. I am taste. The feeling of sand beneath bare feet. I am movement. Vivid colors. I am the urge to paint on an empty canvas. I am boundless imagination. Art. Poetry. I sense. I feel. I am everything I wanted."
Curious how I made this? I bought tracing paper, acrylic paint, paintbrushes, clear glue (although mod podge would probably have worked better), and printed out a large sheet of pi (you know 3.14.....). I mixed the glue with water and cut out strips of tracing paper and dipped the paper into the glue/water mixture. Then I rolled it up to create the brain. I glued down the 3.14 number side of the left brain. Then i started paining the right side. I glued down the writing and painted over them and finished by painting the left side of the brain white and the boarder of the left brain white. This painting took a little longer because I had to keep letting things dry, so if you choose to do something like this, expect it to take more then a day!

I hope that this post can encourage you to use both sides of your brain, in wedding planning and in everyday life! Have a great weekend! Also I am not a painter (this is the third thing i have ever done) so if you want be super nice and leave me a comment I'd be ecstatic! :)
